Changes to my study program

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well!

Today I will talk about some changes I would make to the curriculum of my major: Political Science. To start with, I want to talk about the University. I study at the University of Chile, known throughout the country for its tradition and prestige, which entails a heavy workload for students of all majors.

Regarding Political Science, although I really enjoy what I study, it is true that sometimes the academic load is quite big: it requires a lot of reading, critical analysis and knowing a little bit of everything. However, the design of the curriculum is pretty good, all semesters have a correlation between them, which makes learning continuous and comprehensive. I would only change the regulation of the work load.

Until this year I did not know the School of Government and Public Administration (which is where my major is taught). When I met it, I found it to be very welcoming, but also very small. However, I would not change anything about it, because a new and very spacious faculty is being built to host Political Science: it is called Vicuña Mackenna 20. 

The use of technology in my major, although it is not so much, demands previous knowledge of Excel or the use of computer programs, which is something I am personally not so familiar with. This is why I think it is necessary for the University to provide us the knowledge to use the technological tools that we will use from the first year, because only now, after finishing my second year of my major, we have the possibility of taking an Excel course. 

To conclude, the teaching methods in pandemic have been quite effective from my perspective. The only bad thing is that there are many subjects that simultaneously require reading and analyzing it, which doesn't leave us much free time and that can leave us behind in learning if we don't do the readings on time. I wish it would be varied a bit, because it becomes boring and monotonous to have to read (and talk exclusively about those texts) for all the classes for the whole week.
